Back in 2013, my childhood best friend was teaching English at a university in Valdivia, Chile. She sent me a letter, inviting me to visit her, for a minimum of three months. At that time, I was living with my parents, working at a restaurant, and had minimal expenses. So, I sold my car, cancelled my phone plan, and flew to Santiago, Chile, in September with the intention of traveling north and returning home by New Year's. It was an unforgettable adventure, and I highly recommend taking advantage of such opportunities to travel.
